BMW - Motor Sports.Click4Warranty may not sell car
warranties for cars used on the track, but we still understand the
great importance of motor sport on not only BMW's but for the entire motor
industry as a whole. Although BMW (Bavarian Motor Works) got its start
as an aircraft engine company in the early 1900s, it quickly moved into
motorcycle and automobile production. Over the course of the 20th century,
BMW spent a lot of time leading the way in automotive innovation. Much
of the company's rich history, however, is most centered on its tremendous
success as a motor sports manufacturer of both cycles and cars. Today
BMW motor sport division enjoys tremendous success in Formula
One and their fortunes have improved over the past 3 years achieving
not only podium finishes but also gathering more manufacturers championship
points year after year.
The true legacy of the BMW motor sports impact began with its establishment as a worldwide leader in high quality vehicles during the 1930s. Although much of the company's progress during this decade was in its motorcycles, its ability to produce fast moving vehicles that topped many world records helped set BMW apart during this era of the company's history. In the 1950s, the BMW motor sports leadership evolved further as its motorcycles and side car products were responsible for many Germany and European racing championships throughout the decade. The company set the standard in sidecar racing as its models became the championship vehicle for a run of twenty straight years. BMW also began to develop as a leader in car racing during the mid-to-late 1950s as well. The company's premier roadster racing models that are often now collected as classics dominated many races during the era, as did some of the company's other racing models. There was a bit of a lull in racing progress during the late 50s and early 1960s as BMW began to focus more on its contemporary cars and sedan lines. However, the company took another giant step forward in building its motor sports legacy with its move into Formula 2 racing production in the late 1960s. The 1970s were another huge decade for BMW in motor sports as the company developed many 6-cylinder engine cars and took many championships in the European Touring Car series. The company also expanded its dominance by establishing a few new international motor sports production subsidiaries. BMW was an established leader in Formula 2, Formula 1, and other professional car racing circuits throughout the 70s, and it really has not looked back since. Between the 1980s and today, BMW racers have not only proven to be fast, but very sturdy and reliable as well. The company's models have won long distance races like the Paris-Dakar Rally and many other notable world champions including the famed Le Mans. BMW has been a supreme example of consistent dominance in motor sports. Copyright © 2008 Click4Warranty |
