Peugeot 107

Click4Warranty customers may be interested to read about the Peugeot 107 as we are now starting to find many of our customers extending their Peugeot car warranties with us.

The Peugeot 107 has been produced since 2004. It was originally a joint project with Citroen and Toyota, it is a sister car to the Citroen C1 and Toyota's Aygo. The 107 has replaced the Peugeot 106 and is available as a 3 or 5-door hatchback. It is part of Peugeot's 'Blue Lion' range; with CO2 emissions below 120g/km, low running costs and 95% of the parts are recyclable. It is extremely compact, nippy & sturdy

There is only one engine to this car; a 3 cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine, producing an astounding 63 miles per gallon. The small engine also means a very low insurance premium (group 1). There are five trim levels, starting at Urban Lite and Kiss, which are only available on the 3-door hatch. It then progresses to Urban, Move & Sport.

The entry level Urban Lite trim has basic standard features, such as CD audio with MP3 socket, electric power steering and an immobiliser. Standard safety features include driver and front passenger airbags, ABS, EBFD (electronic brake force distibution) and CSC (cornering stability control). The 'Kiss' trim, released in conjunction with the London radio station Kiss FM, includes special graphics on the sides & a Clarion stereo. The Urban trim level, available on the 3 & 5-door hatch, includes 50/50 split folding rear seats, body-coloured exterior handles & mirrors, remote central locking, electric front windows, & optional rev counter, air-conditioning & side curtain airbags. It is the only model available with 2-Tronic semi-automatic transmission. The Urban Move trim includes alloy wheels, air-conditioning & rev-counter as standard. The Sport trim, only on the 3-door editions, features body stripes, sports exhaust and spoiler.

Overall the interior space is good for a car of this stature, especially in the back, where you'd expect less than adequate room, but there is in fact ample room for two people. The rear windows don't roll down, but do pop open a couple of inches to let a bit of air in. Seeing past the odd styling of the 107 and basic interior, it is more than comfortable and drives extremely well especially around town.

The Peugeot 107 has been rated a four-star Euro NCAP crash rating. There is also a system to keep it stable when braking in corners, although it's not as sophisticated as full stability control. Sadly the 107 is not theft resistant, as there isn't the extra security of deadlocks. But what it lacks in security, it makes up for in efficiency and economy...

Due to its small lightweight engine, the Peugeot 107 is pretty impressive on the environmental front. The pre-2009 models are capable of 61mpg and emit 109g/km of carbon dioxide, while the latest offering (2009) is even 'greener', with 63mpg and 106g/km of CO2. This translates as ten thousand miles costing around £875 a year - not bad. The annual road tax is only £35 too, so thumbs up for the humble 107!

Any motorist concerned about his or her pocket in these troubling times would be wise to think about purchasing an insurance policy which will extend a car warranty. This will protect against the failure of a number of mechanical components of the car, covering the repair costs incurred as a result.
