Skoda from Czechoslovak to a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group - Recent years.

Many older vehicles between three and five years are not likely to still be under their original warranty, so many dealers include mechanical breakdown insurance to increase their chance of selling that vehicle. Theses policies are generally very short and have major restrictions, so they may not always provide the level of cover that you really expect. Choose a used car from a manufacturer’s approved used scheme and the quality of the vehicle and any used car warranty that it comes with is likely to be a notch up on other deals. This is because that dealers company has a vested interest in selling only the best used cars and a bad warranty could damage their reputation.

The Skoda Octavia a masterpiece of dependability came in at position 3, the Skoda Fabia came in at position 4, again no fluke for Skoda, the Fabia is cheap and charming according to Top Gear and finanly Skodas version of the VW Passat the Skoda Superb came in at position 7 which was an entire 67 places above the original Passat which is the VW equivalant. After 1924, following the official formation of the Skoda name, the company developed some very successful car models, while being affected by constant political and cultural transition.

After entering the 1980s with a bit of a gap in technology and design competence, compared with western car companies, Skoda had a major breakthrough in 1987, with its innovative Favorit model. Built from Italian design and more modern technology, the vehicle became very successful in both Eastern Europe and Western Europe, including the UK. Although still ridiculed in the West, the car was recognized as a great value in Europe, even with a modest technology gap still present compared to some US cars.

The early 1990s were another major time in the progression of Skoda. Although political reform led to more privatization of the Czech economy, Skoda was selected by the government to partner with a foreign company, Volkswagen (VW). While controversial at the time, the failure of some other privatized Czech automakers showed that for Skoda, VW was stabilising.

A 1996 car model, Felicia, was built with a similar plan to the 1987 Favorit. However, with advanced VW technology and manufacturing, it shined more brightly, and epitomized the modern development of the Skoda brand, under the VW umbrella. The follow ups, the Octavia and Fabia were both hugely successful in the new European Union based on their great value perception.

In the 21st century, Skoda has become a very reputable brand as a VW subsidiary. Much of the company's advertising plays off the sometimes less glamorous history of the company. It is sometimes positioned as an honest, highly reliable value-oriented car, that is perhaps less glitzy than other brands, but is a true performing car. The company has manufacturing plants throughout Europe, including Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Herzegovina. It has also been a major player in the World Rally Championship (WRC) since 2005. * Sorry we don't sell warranties for the world rally cars, not just yet anyway!!

It will be interesting to see what the coming years bring for the brand. Global economic uncertainty suggests that good times might lie ahead for this affordable, value-oriented automobile that offers toughness, modern technology, and an image of honesty and a reputation for consistent delivery of vehicles performance.
