Toyota part 3: The CarsIt would be ridiculous to attempt an overview of all the fabulous automobiles which have emanated from the factories of the Toyota Motor Corporation over the last seven decades. We can but scratch the surface here…
From the practicality and conservatism of the Corrolla to the downright sexy and racy MR2s, Supras and Celicas; the groundbreaking technologies and ideals which have produced the Prius and the iQ, or the sensitivity for a wide range of modern lifestyles which demand the likes of the RAV4 or Avensis, Toyota has produced some of the most memorable and enduring automobiles ever. Buying a used Toyota is generally a safe bet when it comes to reliability due to their track record of quality materials and production methods. Having said that, it is always a good idea to ensure that you have an extended car warranty in place for when your manufacturer's warranty expires, to protect you against the unexpected costs of repairs when things do go wrong! In 1955, Toyota started their productive and successful automotive production company with the Crown Model vehicle. The Crown has evolved into a line of full size luxury sedans and the range was first available mostly in Japan and was originally designed to serve as a taxi. The Crown is Toyota's oldest sedan still in production and is used by many Japanese companies as their company limousine. The first Crown model the RS-S30 was made from 1955-1962 and it was the first of their cars to be exported to the United States. In the first models the 1.5 litre engine was standard, which was the same engine used on their previous car the Toyopet Super. In 2000, Toyota released the Origin, which is a retro version of the RS series Crown. They did this to celebrate 100 million vehicles having been built in Japan. The 13th generation new Crown is available in 5 different trim levels; one being the Crown Hybrid series with a V6 drive train. The Crown is one of the first vehicles to have 3D Satellite Navigation System. In 1966 Toyota built the Corolla which quickly became Japan's most popular family car and led the market for autos of its compact size. In 1997 it became one of the best selling cars in the world and sold over 35 million as of 2007. The Corolla has now been replaced by the Auris, yet there are still plenty of really good bargains to be had if you were thinking of buying a used Toyota Corolla. They hold their value incredibly well as have had few major problems, and you can get a great deal when you buy a used car warranty on models up to 12 years old! The only saloon currently produced for Britain by Toyota is the Avensis. The Toyota Avensis is built at the Toyota plant in Derbyshire England. It received a five star rating from the Euro NCAP. The Avensis is a large family car and is available as a four door saloon, five door hatch and estate. It offers three petrol and four diesel engine options and the new engines have more power and lower CO2 emissions. Toyota spearheaded the Japanese automobile industry's plunge into the luxury car market, with the Lexus LS400 luxury sedan. By the mid-1990s the Lexus was outselling competitors such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Jaguar. The 2009 Lexus LS ranks high in the super luxury car category and is the flagship sedan of Toyota's Lexus. It has one of the finest interiors in its class and has a lot of innovative technology. The interior has soft leather, polished woods and a wide range of entertainment and climate technology. One of the most radical innovations to come from Toyota has been the Prius, with its Hybrid Synergy Drive, launched in 1997. It combined a highly efficient petrol engine with a self-regenerating electric motor, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by half. Following in the success of the first and second Prius models, the Generation III was released worldwide in 2003 and is still being produced today. The Third Generation Prius is very different aesthetically from the second but both use the same basic technology. They have the same type of battery although the III has increased power output. The Prius Generation III uses control electronic to boost the voltage in the Hybrid system. The third generation is a about the size of a Camry. The Toyota iQ was first introduced as a concept city car at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show and the production version was revealed at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show. The i stands for "individuality, innovation and intelligence" and the Q stands for "quality" according to Toyota. The iQ is "the world's smallest premium four-seater ", according to the designers at Toyota. This vehicle was created as part of the company's New Small Car strategy which aims to revolutionise vehicle packaging. Toyota has always been forward thinking and has changed the concept of cars over the years. They are always looking for new innovative ways to design cars so they can remain eco-friendly and fuel efficient. Click the links to go back to Toyota History or Toyota Technology...
