Servicing Requirements During Warranty Cover

The The Office of Fair Trading's study of the car warranties market in 2003 found that the conditions that make warranty cover dependent on the car being serviced at the manufacturer's franchised dealer limit consumers' choice, and may lead them to pay higher prices for servicing and wide spread confusion among consumers about the terms attached to their warranties, with most believing that they must have their car serviced at a franchised dealer for the warranty to remain valid, when this is not necessarily the case.

Click4Warranty are different. We understand that you have the right to decide where to service your vehicle and when you buy a car warranty policy from us you can either follow the manufacturers service requirements or we provide the following alternative five point service schedule which can be carried out by your local vat registered garage (we don't insist on expensive franchised dealer servicing).

The assumption that all warranties purchased after the manufacturers warranty has expired have the same service restrictions, mainly stem from restrictions placed in the extended warranty many dealers and a handful of manufacturers will impose in there policies. You see in addition to the manufacturer's warranty (usually one or two years), new cars are often sold with a free dealer based extended warranty that increases the warranty to three years. Many of these warranties require the car to be serviced at a franchised dealer of that manufacturer throughout the period of the warranty for the warranty to remain valid.

Today most manufacturers' warranties do not impose such a restriction, it mainly stems from the dealers extended warranty. In practice, the vast majority of such consumers, who wish to ensure that their warranty remains valid and to secure peace of mind against their car failing, are effectively restricted. Hidden Excess Charges and Claim Limits
