What are the service requirements?

What proof of service is required?

You will not require proof of service when you take out your Click4Warranty used car warranty policy and your car will be covered from day one on all policy options… even for Wear & Tear.

You may be required to provide proof of service when making a claim.

Accepted proof of services is either:

  • Your insured vehicle’s servicing handbook, correctly stamped and completed by a VAT registered garage.

OR

  • Fully detailed VAT service invoice(s) indicating the servicing dates and mileage at the time of service.

What if the service history is incomplete or missing?

If you have a partial service history, with a service carried out in the last 12 months by a VAT registered garage and is correctly stamped in your car’s service book, then simply continue to follow the service schedule as set out by the manufacturer. If there has been no service in the last 12 months, then just make sure you have your car serviced within 21 days or 500 miles of taking out your cover (whichever is sooner) so any claim you make will be accepted for review. Then continue to follow the manufacturer’s service schedule.

If you have no service history, you must ensure you have your car serviced within 21 days or 500 miles of taking out your cover (whichever is sooner) so any claim you make will be accepted for review. We don’t insist on an expensive franchise dealer service, so long as the garage is VAT registered and the service is correctly stamped in your car’s service book. Then simply continue to follow the service schedule as set out by the manufacturer.

If you have a complete service history, just make sure it’s been carried out by a VAT registered garage and is correctly stamped in your car’s service book. Then simply continue to follow the service schedule as set out by the manufacturer.

Must cars be serviced by a franchised dealer?

We don’t insist you use an expensive franchise dealer service, so long as the garage is VAT registered and the service is correctly stamped in your car’s service book.

What are the service requirements during cover?

All used car warranty providers require vehicles under cover to be serviced by a VAT registered garage and for the service to be correctly recorded in the vehicle’s service book for cover to continue. But, we don’t insist on servicing at an expensive franchised dealer.

If you follow the manufacturer’s service schedule, as a general rule of thumb, you’ll need a service every 12,000 miles, or 12 months, whichever is sooner. But check the actual requirements as specified in your service book, or call your local dealer to confirm.

What is an excess?

An excess is the contribution you pay towards each claim. Click4Warranty policy holders benefit from an extremely low excess of just £10 per claim. All claims are subject to this standard excess and the age of your car does not affect the excess of any claim.

In the unlikely event that a claim arises for any of the parts listed under the ECU, air-conditioning and electrical system within the first 30 days from the start date of your policy, then a claims excess of 50% will apply. However, this only applies in the first 30 days.

Where cars have travelled 60,000 miles or more at the time of the claim, the standard excess applies, plus the following contribution, that depends on the mileage of the vehicle at the time the claim is made:

Mileage at point of claim
Up to 70,000 – 10%
Up to 80,000 – 20%
Up to 90,000 – 30%
Up to 100,000 – 40%
Over 100,000 – 50%

What is Wear & Tear?

In used car warranty terms, if a part breaks or fails as a result of the mileage or running of the car, it’s generally considered to be failure as a result of Wear & Tear. This is the anticipated deterioration in performance of a part due to age or distance travelled.

Is cover for Wear & Tear included?

Wear & Tear is included in all of the Click4Warranty policy options and provides cover from day one for failure due to Wear & Tear on covered items, excluding service items like brakes and clutch. But check your policy document for full details.

A mechanical part can develop a Wear & Tear fault at any time, so we don’t apply a specific excess or increase the excess due to your car’s age. If your car has travelled less than 60,000 miles, the standard low excess of £10 applies. Where a car has covered more than 60,000 miles at the time of the claim, the standard low excess is applied, plus the following contribution based on mileage:

Mileage at point of claim
Up to 70,000 – 10%
Up to 80,000 – 20%
Up to 90,000 – 30%
Up to 100,000 – 40%
Over 100,000 – 50%

Does Wear & Tear cover consumables?

Generally, car warranties don’t cover consumables like oil, filters, lubricants, bulbs and the like, that are typically checked and replaced during car maintenance or routine servicing. The list of covered parts above will give you complete details of the parts covered by your Click4Warranty policy.

Is there a waiting period for Wear & Tear cover?

All of these Click4Warranty policies cover you from day one, with no waiting period. You will be covered towards the cost of repair of all insured parts due to sudden mechanical breakdown or electrical failure, Wear & Tear or identified as likely to suffer an imminent breakdown by s suitably qualified technician during a routine service or MOT.

Is a vehicle inspection needed for Wear & Tear cover?

At Click4Warranty we never ask you to take your car for a pre-inspection or health check. All that’s required for your car to be covered is that it falls within the age and mileage requirements, and your car has either been serviced by a VAT registered garage in the last 12 months with the details correctly stamped in your car’s service book, or you must make sure you have your car serviced within 21 days or 500 miles of taking out your cover (whichever is sooner) so any claim you make will be accepted for review. Then, continue to follow the manufacturer’s service schedule.

See What are the service requirements? section above for full details.

And in addition, there’s no age or mileage limits once cover starts!

How much does the policy cover?

You can select the level of cover that suits your needs… and your pocket… with cover options right up to £7,000, and several cover options in between.

Whichever level of cover you choose to take, there’s no limit to the number of claims you can make!

What are the payment options?

What are the labour rates and claims limits?

What is the policy claim limit?

No matter which policy option you select, you can choose the claim benefit level that suits you best, up to £7,000… and is the maximum amount you can claim, including parts, labour and VAT.

How many claims are covered?

There is no limit on the number of claims you can make, no matter which benefit level you select, the term of your cover, or the policy option.

What is the maximum amount the policy will pay?

The maximum amount that can be claimed is the benefit level you select, up to a maximum £7,000 including parts, labour and VAT. Whichever level of cover you choose, there is no limit to the number of claims you can make over the course of your cover.

How much of the hourly labour rate is covered?

The hourly labour rate of £40 per hour, charged by our approved repairers is covered in full, subject of course, to the benefit level you select. These rates are in line with multiple national repairers, which means you could have your vehicle repaired no matter where in the country you are located, without having to pay anything towards it. This is paid directly to the repairer where possible, to make sure you’re not left out of pocket.

This rate has been negotiated due to the high volume of work we send to our approved repairer, and results in lower premiums for you, the policyholder however, if you choose to use your own repairer, our claims administrator, AutoProtect (MBI) Limited, will pay up to the equivalent AutoProtect national labour rate, which is currently £57.60 per hour including VAT if the repairer is inside the M25 and £48.00 per hour including VAT if the repairer is outside the M25.

How big is the approved repairer network?

Breakdowns generally happen at the most inconvenient time and place, miles from home and the garage you generally use. With a network of over 300 Autocentres nationwide, our approved repairers offer fast, convenient and reliable repairs. Click here for full details of how to claim.

Are repairs guaranteed?

All covered repairs carried out by our approved repairer network are guaranteed for 12 months, or 12,000 miles.

What about cancellations and refunds?

What if I change my mind?

If you decide for whatever reason that you simply don’t want the used car warranty cover provided by your Click4Warranty policy, you will receive 100% refund of your premium back within 21 days of your cover start date, as long as no claims have been authorised or paid. What if I want to cancel after the cooling off period?

Again, simply call us on 0208 819 3424 during office hours. We’ll send you a confirmation of cancellation and any subsequent breakdowns or claims will not be covered.

Are there any exclusions or limitations from cover?

Please read your policy terms for complete details of your benefits, limitations and exclusions.

What are the limitations?

This will provide general guidance however, for all details of your policy limitations, please read your policy terms.

Generally, a repairer can diagnose the cause of the fault, and repair or replace the part, without need to dismantle the car or spend time fault finding. When this happens, and your used car warranty provides cover for the failure, your policy will pay towards the labour cost of repairs in the usual way.

On occasion, the fault needs to be investigated further to identify the cause of the failure. When this happens, your Click4Warranty policy will provide cover towards the cost of diagnostics or dismantling if it’s part of a valid claim and is included in the workshop labour time for the repair, subject to the claim benefit level you selected. Where this is charged separately, rather than as part of the repair itself, then it isn’t included in the covered repair and therefore won’t be covered by your warranty. This is a standard limitation in any warranty.

Always ensure that any warranty you consider is fully insured and regulated by the FCA.

Your Click4warranty policy will cover the parts that usually cause overheating, including the engine cooling system, the thermostat water pump, the thermostatically controlled radiator fan motor, the radiator and the cylinder head gasket. Your policy will require you, as a policyholder, to undertake a duty of care, which includes not driving the car if it’s faulty.

What are the exclusions?

This will provide general guidance however, for all details of your policy exclusions, please read your policy terms.
